Mold is never a good thing to have in your home. It’s ugly, smelly, and can cause some health risks.
So, what is it and how do you get rid of it?
How does mold form and how can you prevent it from growing or coming back?
Let’s go over the answers to these questions so you and your family can have a mold-free home.
What Is Bathroom Mold?
Bathroom mold is a fungus that loves humidity.
The mold thrives in humid places that have a lot of constant water contact. A bathroom is a perfect place for mold to grow.
You may have noticed little brown, black, or green spots have started to develop on your shower walls, shower curtain, ceiling, or around faucets or toilets.
Typical bathroom mold can also be found in the kitchen or anywhere with frequent humidity.
Usually, bathroom mold can be removed easily without calling a professional.
How Does Mold Spread?
Mold reproduces by releasing tiny spores into the air and use the smallest bit of humidity to take hold onto a surface.
Mold feeds on dust as well. Most homes have an ample supply of dust that can potentially feed the mold spores.
Yuck! That’s not an appealing thought.
Moisture and heat from your bathroom create an ideal environment for mold to grow.
The dust and other microscopic organisms in the air feed the mold and result in a rather fast-growing mold.
The problem with mold is that it will keep coming back in the same places if you don’t take care of it properly.
Simply wiping the mold off won’t kill it. It’ll keep coming back in the same place unless you kill the existing mold.
Killing the mold doesn’t have to be complicated!
It can be done with a few household items that you probably have right now.
How to Get Rid of Bathroom Mold
A little mold in your bathroom isn’t too much of a problem and you can fix it with a few simple tricks!
You can kill bathroom mold relatively easily, although some molds are a little harder to kill than others. Some molds continue to come back time and time again, and it can get frustrating.
Although this is typically not the problem as long as you stay on top of the mold growth.
Vinegar
Put some white vinegar in a spray bottle but don’t dilute it with water!
Spray the areas with vinegar and wait an hour or so for the vinegar to kill the mold. Open the bathroom windows if you have some. This will let the area air dry and prevent your bathroom from stinking too bad of vinegar.
After enough time has passed, use warm water and a towel to wipe down the walls or the affected area.
Make sure the area is completely dry to prevent any mold from returning.
Remember:
Mold loves humidity!
So the key is to make sure that you don’t create more wetness for the mold spores to continue reproducing.
Sometimes vinegar isn’t strong enough to get rid of bathroom mold.
But what’s easier than removing bathroom mold?
Preventing it!
Vinegar is also very good at preventing bathroom mold from developing in the first place.

The most bleach you should use is one cup per gallon of water.

Allow the bleach mixture to sit on the mold for at least 5 minutes. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation as bleach can have a lot of fumes.
Never mix ammonia and bleach as it creates toxic deadly fumes!
Use a sponge or an old toothbrush to scrub the mold off of infested surfaces. You should see the mold start to wipe away.
Rinse the bleach with water and let the area air dry. This should take care of your mold problem.
Again, make sure the wall is completely dry to prevent new mold from growing.
