A toilet is a toilet…right? Wrong! On one hand, all toilets are designed to do one thing (you know what that is). But there are several different types of toilets, with many designed differently to do that “one thing” that they do in specific ways.
The fact is, bathroom customs worldwide and evolving tech (yes, tech) trends impact toilet design. As toilets evolve, manufactures give users even more luxurious toilet experiences.
And here’s something interesting:
Many toilets in the U.S. and around the world have new high-tech features like auto-flush, self-closing lids, and even a light that helps you find your way around the bathroom at night.
For example, it’s common now to have self-flushing toilets in many large businesses in the U.S. It’s only a matter of time before we also have these in our homes.
However, some toilets can be super expensive and most average home consumers aren’t ready to hand over hard cash to have a luxurious toilet. In fact, the average consumer doesn’t know their way around basic plumbing at all.
That’s where Simple Toilet comes in. A group of plumber friends were having a discussion about toilets and decided that it was time to educate the public on toilets and basic plumbing. An informative blog that puts out high-quality content was born.
Here at Simple Toilet, we help you decide which toilets to buy, the different kinds of toilets, and more.
For example, did you know that there are now waterless toilets? Yep. And soft toilet seats have never gone out of vogue, believe it or not. We’re also sensitive to sustainability and many people’s’ desire to use less water in their flushes.
Also, we love to hear from our customers. Contact us if you have content ideas or requests, or even just to tell us we’re doing a good job. We even have a Facebook page.
We want to be your go-to source for all things toilet. Happy flushing!
Larry Donovan Editor in Chief
I’m Larry Donovan, Editor in Chief for Simple Toilet.
I became a plumber’s assistant to my dad in our family business growing up, and even started plumbing school. But my true love was writing, so I ended up going to college and getting a degree in English literature with a minor in creative writing.
Working at Simple Toilet, I’m able to write about the importance of plumbing issues as well as enjoy my true love: writing.
It’s great working with our informative team of writers from all over the country, too. We’re able to be so effective at delivering high quality content because of the expertise of everyone on this team. It’s not that easy to find writers who are plumbing experts but our team here gets the job done and in the best possible way.
My most important roles in life, though, are as a son, husband, and father. In my free time, I’m working on a technical book about plumbing for the layperson.

In my spare time, I enjoy whitewater rafting and watching sci-fi movies.

Garland Rich Communications Manager
My name is Garland Rich and I’m the Communications Manager for Simple Toilet.
After obtaining my business communications degree, I started my career in communications working for a plumbing supplies and parts manufacturer. You’d be surprised how much technology goes into plumbing and how many regulations there are. So I kept busy working on both internal and external communications.
Making the transition to an online company has been great. I’m able to be more creative at Simple Toilet, and enjoy the great team we work with.
I’m engaged to be married and we hope to eventually buy a tiny house so that we can live our sustainability dream.
